Diagnostics
A Deeper Look at Your Pet’s Health
Your pet's symptoms are part of a story.
Sometimes the story is straightforward. Other times, it takes a little more listening to understand what the body is trying to tell us.
At Nature & Nurture, diagnostics aren't about ordering every test available. They're about asking better questions.
We combine foundational veterinary diagnostics with carefully selected functional and integrative testing to look beyond the obvious and better understand the patterns underlying your pet's health—so we can make decisions that are thoughtful, individualized, and rooted in the whole picture.
Because when we understand more, we can do more than simply respond to symptoms. We can begin to understand what your pet needs to thrive.
Foundational Diagnostics
Sometimes the most valuable information comes from the basics.
Depending on your pet and their individual needs, this may include:
- Comprehensive bloodwork
- Urinalysis
- Standard fecal parasite testing
- Heartworm, tick-borne, and other infectious disease testing
- Vaccine titers
If conventional imaging diagnostics are needed, we partner with other local practitioners.
Functional & Integrative Diagnostics
When the conventional picture doesn't tell the whole story—or when we're looking more proactively at your pet's health—we may explore additional testing related to:
- Nutritional status
- Inflammation
- Metabolic health
- Digestive function and the microbiome
- Immune function
- Environmental exposures such as heavy metals, mold or mycotoxins, and chemical toxins like glyphosate
- Fatty acid balance
- Other individualized areas of concern
The Test Is Only Part of the Story
A lab result is a piece of information. By itself, it doesn't tell us everything about your pet.
We look at diagnostic findings alongside the things that make your pet unique—their nutrition, lifestyle, environment, history, relationships, symptoms, and patterns over time.
That broader perspective can help us connect dots that are easy to miss when each piece is considered on its own.
Our goal isn't to chase numbers or find something wrong simply because we can test for it.
It's to gather meaningful information, put it into context, and use it to make better decisions for your pet.
What We May Look More Closely At
Nutrition
Are your pet's diet and nutrient needs supporting the life they're living?
Inflammation & Immune Function
Are there patterns suggesting the immune system is persistently activated or struggling to regulate appropriately?
Digestion & the Microbiome
What might your pet's digestive health be telling us about their broader health?
Metabolic Health
Are there early patterns that warrant a closer look at how your pet is processing and using nutrients?
Environment
Could something in your pet's surroundings, exposures, or daily routine be contributing to their health picture?
The Whole Pattern
How do these pieces fit together—and what does that tell us about where to focus?
Examples of Functional Testing
Depending on your pet's history and goals, testing may include:
Nutritional & Metabolic
- Vitamin and nutrient status
- Iron level studies
- Fatty acid balance
- Metabolic markers
Digestive & Microbiome
- Comprehensive gastrointestinal testing
- Microbiome and dysbiosis evaluation
- Digestive function testing
Inflammatory & Immune
- Selected inflammatory markers
- Immune-related testing
- Vaccine and rabies titers when appropriate
Environmental
- Targeted assessment for environmental exposures, mineral imbalances, and toxicities when clinically indicated
Cancer & Complex Disease
- Specialized diagnostics may be considered when appropriate for pets with a pre-disposition of cancer, current cancer monitoring, or other complex conditions
Information Becomes Valuable When It Leads to Better Care
Testing is not about collecting more data.
It's about turning information into understanding—and understanding into action.
Whether we're investigating a complex health concern, trying to understand why a pet isn't thriving, or looking proactively at the foundations of long-term wellness, our goal is the same:
to understand your pet more completely so we can care for them more intentionally.
Because good medicine isn't simply about treating what's wrong.
It's about tending to the whole animal—and creating the conditions for health to flourish.
We don't test more just because we can. We look deeper when there's a reason to look deeper.
